Marlynne Kay Willingham
Art in Motion
Native Detroiter, Marlynne "Kay" Willingham is an instructor with historic Pewabic Pottery. She teaches ceramics in Detroit Public schools, charter schools, and special-assignment locations. Kay graduated from Cass Technical High School, with a major in Fashion Illustration. She attended Spellman College in Atlanta, Georgia and then the University of Detroit Mercy (formerly known as the University of Detroit) and received her B.S. in Marketing and Management, and then an M.S.S. in Management and Psychology.
Kay’s exposure to the art world comes from her parents, whose love of visual arts led her to sculpture, drawing, and painting. Kay studied with internationally recognized Detroit artist Charles McGee and is heavily influenced by his style.
She’s presently working on multiple projects including Art in Motion, a ceramic studio where the community can participate in workshops, attend classes, gain technical skills, enjoy private lessons and work in an open studio setting. She is also working with Play with Clay for Kids, one of the grant-based programs which teaches Detroit youth the fine art of working with clay.
