Creating a palette based on skin color

Cristin Richard

Detroit artists, Cristin Richard is in the movement of artists whose work is related to the body and identity. Particularly interested in the manipulation of organic matter, these materials build a dialog of what it feels like to be human. In the majority of her work, she reconstructs animal intestines into tangible objects. Playing on the ambiguity created by the presence of this animal material, she develops metaphors loaded with complexities.

She was chosen to have an installation in the Art + Retail on the Ave project September 20, 2013. She is creating yardage from hog intestines. She utilizes this organic material to create metaphors for what it feels like to be human.
